Creations from one of New York’s leading designers can now be found among the treasures and trinkets of Exhibit Interiors. As of April 2013, Exhibit will be home to a great range of colourful scented candles and iconic table accessories by Jonathan Adler. Bringing small pieces of New York to Melbourne, the collection includes quirky designs such as a Dachshund Butter Dish and a Whale Water Pitcher.
Since receiving his first order for pottery from Barneys New York twenty years ago, Jonathan Adler has grown his company to become an internationally recognized lifestyle and home furnishings brand. Dedicated to bring style, craft and joy into our lives, Jonathan’s creativity is fueled by mid-century modern, art and global pop culture.
The company prides itself on its ability to combine serious design with a colourful sense of optimism. The guiding motto, ‘if your heirs won’t fight over it, we won’t make it,’ reflects Jonathan’s commitment to impeccable craftsmanship and irreverent luxury.
Aside from designing furniture and iconic pottery, Jonathan has also collaborated with many notable brands. In 2009 Mattel called upon Jonathan to design the modern-glam interiors for the ‘real’ BarbieTM Dream house in celebration of Barbie’s 50th anniversary. In 2012 Jonathan collaborated with Kravet to create an exclusive collection of fabrics and partnered with The Rug Company on a collection; each partnership reflects his colourful approach to design and love of craftsmanship.
Jonathan’s love of art and pottery, in particular, is exemplified in the exquisite details of each ceramic design. The Dachshund Butter Dish, Whale Butter Dish and Whale Water Pitcher exhibit elaborate features and recognizable traits. The Muse Sugar Pot and Tongue Spoon Holders use the shapes of lips and tongues to liven otherwise mundane accessories.
Jonathan is also renowned for his innovative collection of scented candles. Using scents that include Watercress, Pepper, Bubble-gum and Tomato, Jonathan’s aromas are truly unique.
Jonathan Adler’s colourful and contemporary designs will be available in store or online at Exhibit Interiors in May 2013.
